Passengers and Accessibility

Taxi and private hire drivers play a crucial role in assisting disabled individuals in London. Under the Equality Act 2010, drivers have specific responsibilities, including:

• Not refusing to transport a passenger with an assistance dog.
• Carrying a wheelchair, when feasible.
• Providing mobility assistance as reasonably required.
• Not charging extra for these services.

Blackwall Tunnel Closure

The Blackwall Tunnel will be closed to southbound traffic during the following times:

• 23:00 Friday 11 to 05:00 Saturday 12 October
• 23:00 Friday 18 to 05:00 Saturday 19 October

This closure is necessary for work on the new road layout as part of the Silvertown Tunnel construction. Northbound traffic will remain open.

Drivers needing to cross the river should consider alternative crossings away from central London, especially larger vehicles, as some may have restrictions. The Congestion Charging zone will operate as usual. More information is available on the Blackwall Tunnel webpage.

SERU Assessment Support

To assist applicants preparing for their assessments, TFL has made audio files of the PHV Driver's Handbook available on its website. The files are organized by chapter, allowing applicants to listen and enhance their knowledge and confidence.

Additionally, TFL offers other resources, including an online assessment guide that explains the assessment format, types of questions, and what to expect on the day.

Websites Offering Fast-Track Licence Applications

Applicants for a private hire driver's licence should only pay the application cost. TFL does not provide a fast-track service and will never charge more than the advertised application fee.

If approached by a third party offering a fast-track service for an additional fee, this is a scam. Report such incidents to TFL at tphreport@tfl.gov.uk.

Road Updates

A40 Westway

Until mid-October, the A3220 West Cross Route from Holland Park roundabout to the Westway roundabout will be closed to northbound traffic due to safety and maintenance works.

The northbound on-slip from the A3220 to the A40 Westway and the westbound off-slip from the Westway roundabout to Wood Lane will also be closed. There will be no access to the A40 from the A3220. The eastbound on and off-slip roads and the A3220 southbound slips will remain open.

Signed diversion routes will be in place, but local roads may experience heavy traffic. Long delays are expected. It is advisable to use alternative routes like A312 The Parkway or A406 North Circular for connections with the A4.

Farringdon Road

Until 10 November, Farringdon Road will be closed southbound between Ray Street Bridge and Charterhouse Street due to essential Cadent Gas works.
