Metropolitan Police Service and TfL's Leaflet for Taxi and Private Hire Drivers

The Metropolitan Police Service, in collaboration with Transport for London, has developed a comprehensive leaflet to provide practical information to taxi and private hire drivers on ensuring their personal safety and safeguarding their money and possessions.

Reporting Criminal Activity

The leaflet also includes guidelines on how drivers can promptly report any criminal activity they may witness while on the road.

Using Taxi Ranks and Taxi-Only Charging Bays

Prohibited Stops for Private Hire Vehicles

Private hire vehicles must strictly avoid stopping or waiting in taxi ranks or taxi-only charging bays. Violating this rule may result in a Penalty Charge Notice and potential licensing consequences. Additionally, taxis should never be left unattended on active taxi ranks.

Learn About Permitted Parking Areas

Refer to our parking information page for authorized stopping, waiting, drop-off, and pick-up locations for both taxis and private hire vehicles.

Effective Communication via Email

If you need to contact us via email regarding your licence application or renewal, please ensure that you include your full name and application number (starting with DAPP) or your taxi/private hire licence number in the subject line. This will expedite the processing of your email. For more information on how to reach us, please visit our contact page.

The most efficient method to book or modify a vehicle inspection appointment is through our online platform. This service is available 24/7, allowing you to manage your account and schedule inspections at your convenience.
