Transport for London (TfL) News Update - April 25, 2024

Travel Disruption
- Underground: Potential strike action on Friday, April 26th, may cause service disruptions. Stations may close at short notice.
- Trams: Services may be affected from Sunday, May 5th (8:00 PM) to Thursday, May 9th (6:00 AM).
- Increased Demand: Expect higher demand for taxis and private hire vehicles in areas impacted by strikes.
Heathrow Airport Taxi Ranks
- A reminder to taxi and private hire drivers to wait for passengers only in the designated authorized vehicle area (AVA) and avoid residential areas.
DBS Update Service
- Mandatory licensing requirement: All new and renewing taxi or private hire driver license applications require DBS Update Service registration.
- Two registration windows:
- 28 days from enhanced DBS check application
- 30 days from DBS certificate issuance
- Missing the windows requires a new enhanced DBS check application and fee.

Events
- Take That (O2 Arena, April 25-28): Marshalled taxi rank and pre-booked PHV area at 6 Glover Drive, N18 3HF. Main egress from 9:30 PM to midnight. Only Sectors 1, 2, and 9 taxi drivers can serve this rank.
- Annual Charity Bicycle Ride (Central London, April 27): Expect large crowds and increased traffic from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Harlequins v Northampton Rugby Match (Twickenham Stadium, April 27): Large crowds and increased traffic expected before and after the match from noon to 6:30 PM.
- Filming (Trafalgar Square, April 28): Closures around Trafalgar Square from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Ford RideLondon 2024 (May 26):
- Extensive road closures planned across central London, east London, and Essex until approximately 9:00 PM.

Demonstrations (Central London, April 27):
- Expect large crowds for the following marches:
- Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM)
- Parliament Square to Hyde Park (11:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
- Marble Arch to Whitehall (12:30 PM to 3:00 PM)
Road Updates
- Bromley (Tweedy Road): Southbound traffic on Tweedy Road cannot turn left onto College Road until Tuesday, April 29th (5:00 AM) due to signal modernization works.
- Pembroke Road: Closed in both directions at the junction of Warwick Road until Saturday, May 18th (11:59 PM). Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
- A406 Gunnersbury Avenue: Closed between Chiswick Roundabout and Popes Lane from Friday, April 26th (9:00 PM) to Tuesday, April 30th, with a signed diversion route. This is due to emergency Thames Water works. Drivers are advised to check before traveling, allow extra time, and consider alternative routes.
- Edgware Road: Southbound lane closed between Old Marylebone Road and Crawford Place from Saturday, April 27th (8:00 AM) to Sunday, April 28th (6:00 PM) due to Vorboss telecom works. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Station Updates
- Charing Cross Station: Forecourt closed from Sunday, April 28th (7:00 AM) to Monday, April 29th (8:00 AM). Taxis should use the feeder rank on The Strand.
- Billinton Hill, East Croydon Station: Closed for engineering works until Thursday, April 25th. Taxis should use the taxi rank on Lansdowne Road, which will also have space for PHV drop-offs and pick-ups. Travel Ambassadors will be present to assist passengers and direct them to Lansdowne Road.
Other Updates
- Ealing Road: Temporary traffic lights are in place between Ealing Road and its junction with Brentford High Street for construction works expected to last until the end of July. Increased traffic is expected.
