Transport for London (TfL) Updates: May 21, 2024

Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards

TfL is making changes to taxi and private hire licensing requirements to enhance passenger safety. These changes will come into effect on July 1st. More information, including upcoming guidance documents, will be sent to licensed drivers and operators.

Ford RideLondon 2024

This annual cycling event takes place on Sunday, May 26th, in London and Essex. Expect extensive road closures in central London, east London, and Essex, including some river crossings, until approximately 9 pm. Delays are likely, especially around the A12 near the Blackwall Tunnel, A13, and A406. Visit the event website for full details on road closures.

DBS Update Service

Anyone applying for a new or renewed taxi or private hire driver license must now register with the DBS Update Service. You have two windows to register:

• Within 28 days of applying for your enhanced DBS check.
• Within 30 days of receiving your DBS certificate.

Missing these windows will require a new enhanced DBS check. See the provided links for more information.

• May 17: Erykah Badu concert at The Blues Kitchen Shoreditch

• May 18:

  • Trek 26 sporting event starting and finishing at Larkhall Park.
  • ABS Chicken Run throughout central London.
  • Political event causing Duncannon Street closure.
  • Trafalgar Square closure from 7 am to 9 pm.
  • Moonwalk charity walk across central London.

• May 19:

  • League One Play Off Final at Wembley Stadium (Bolton Wanderers vs. Oxford United)
  • League Two Play Off Final at Wembley Stadium
  • Half marathon starting and ending in Hackney Marshes.
  • Motorcycle procession starting at Blackheath.
  • 3K, 5K, and 10K Race for Life in Finsbury Park.
  • Demonstration march from Parliament Square to Downing Street.
  • Rally on White Lion Street in Islington.

• May 12: Spencer Road closure in Clapham Junction for a festival event.

Road Updates

• Pembroke Road: Closed at the junction with Warwick Road until May 18th.
• Blackwall Tunnel: Closed on specific weekends for Silvertown Tunnel construction (see website for details).
• Ealing Road: Temporary traffic lights in place near Brentford High Street.
