Evenings in Chía and Days Out to Zipaquirá
Andrés Carne de Res in Chía is the city's most famous evening out, and Chía is twenty-five kilometres north of Bogotá. The standard plan is dinner at nine, dancing until late, and a return well after midnight. Booking a chauffeur ahead means the journey home is decided before you sit down to dinner, which is the only sensible way to do that night at that hour.
Bogotá's day trips do not work well from a public-transport plan, and the best of them sit north of the city. Zipaquirá's underground Salt Cathedral can be done in a half-day. Villa de Leyva's Spanish colonial square needs a proper weekend. Wedding parties often head east instead, up into La Calera in the hills, where the country houses sit above the lights of the city. The same driver covers the round trip and the wait time, so you decide when the day actually ends, not someone in a dispatch office.
